Business History

A Note from the Owner –

Albury Engraving Plus is a trophy and engraving retail business which I operate as a sole trader. The shop opened at 479 Townsend Street, Albury in June 2013, but has already developed a wonderful reputation throughout the local community. I have no employees at this stage and complete the most intricate work on my own. I sell a complete range of trophies, awards, gifts and badges for you to choose from. A key cutting service is also available. The business started in 2003, operating from home. The main source of income stemmed from providing trade services in engraving, printing and sandblasting to local trophy and jewellery shops. Some direct business came from a market stall at the Rotary Community Markets in Albury on Sunday mornings as well. The stall provided an engraving service and sold pet tags and giftware.

I became a self-taught engraver in 1981 when on leave from my work as a primary school teacher. Over the years I have honed my craft and earned a reputation as a skilled engraver. Hand engraving is the main method used in the shop today and it gives AEP an advantage over our competitors. Compared to computer engraving, hand engraving allows a broader scope for personalizing items.

The move to the shop has allowed the business to diversify and change focus from trade to retail. AEP still provides trade services to some local businesses and a number of shops outside the district including those at Wangaratta and Merimbula.

Materials and stock are sourced from over 12 suppliers in Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland and Port Macquarie. Most of the work is performed in-store except for customized medals, badges, display stands and cases which are outsourced to specialist suppliers. Text, logos and photos can be engraved, printed or etched onto items using the method that best suits the task at hand.

The technology here at AEP is constantly evolving, so you can trust that you’ll always receive the most advanced engraving options available!
